BUBBLE TEA, DISCOVER THE No. 1 DRINK THAT IS SWEEPING THE WORLD
What is bubble tea? Where does this colorful and fun drink, which has become a real star in the most fashionable Instagram posts, come from?
Young, funny, daring, colorful and carefree … no, we are not talking about the latest clothing collection of a fashion brand, but about a drink that has been a resounding success in many European countries. We can find it under the name of bubble tea, boba tea, tea with balls …. Therefore, it will not surprise us to hear that it is a beverage with balls, in fact, in the name boba tea, “boba” is the name of the balls it contains.
BOBA TEA, BUBBLE-TEA, TAPIOCA PEARL MILK TEA … WE GIVE YOU ALL THE DETAILS ABOUT THIS FUN DRINK!
Let’s start with the origins of bubble tea. When and where was it born?
Bubble tea appeared in Taiwan in the late eighties. The story goes that two locals dispute its authorship, so, without going into too much detail, we will only tell you that the “oldest” recipes of this young drink consist of a mixture of black tea, small pearls, condensed milk and syrup or honey.
Bubble tea became popular in neighboring East Asian countries, then migrated to Canada and New York’s Chinatown, and from there spread throughout America and Europe. In Madrid and Barcelona, for example, we can find several places dedicated to this particular drink. The original recipe has evolved to give way to a multitude of variants, each one more fun than the other.
WHAT DOES BUBBLE or BOBA TEA LOOK LIKE?
This tea with balls is presented as a smoothie, in a transparent glass with a very wide straw. There are green, orange and yellow ones. They come in up to three colors at the same time, in artistic layers and superimpositions, a festival of flavors and colors!
All bubble teas have one thing in common, black gelatinous pearls that accumulate at the bottom of the glass: the famous tapioca pearls. This is why the 12mm straw is slightly wider than normal, so that in each sip the pearls can be eaten. So it is no exaggeration to say that bubble tea is drunk and eaten! And that’s probably what makes it so original and fun.
